Kid & Style - Crying At The Discotheque

Long ago I lived for pastel coloured sherbet tubes, Cotton Eyed Joe playing three times a night and quick changes in the classroom from red and black school uniform to something that twirled when I span covered in something light reflective. There was always a buzz about the school disco and it seems that fifteen years on it's pretty much the same. This morning Layla headed off to school in her own clothes to wear right through the day until late this afternoon when we collect her, hopefully tired and not completely manically high on e-numbers. Undoubtedly they'll play Katy Perry and One Direction at them until they fall into a pop music induced stupor that carried me over for days in my youth.

She decided on wild hair, a floral crown, an elephant print dress with a denim jacket and glitter shoes. Layla is happy as long as there's something twirly and light reflective on her too so she packed off with her Minnie Mouse backpack and as she went I reminisced. Sitting here with my morning coffee I can still taste the excitement that my parents would be picking me up after dark (although that's not happening today). I thought she looked adorable and young and beautiful and...well, let's say the only tears at the discotheque will hopefully be just mine and they all have a ball.

  2. School discos were so, so cheesy and yet the most fun. I still love those sherbet tubes!

Layla is ridiculously cute. And rocking some serious style for someone so young. :)
