A Day Of Looking Up

With the forecast set for rain from Friday onwards and a hurting foot courtesy of a tumble down the stairs, I spent the afternoon outside watching planes criss cross against the bright blue sky and writing notes for new and unfinished projects. I'd never noticed how many planes crossed over our back garden in the past but there's one at least every ten minutes which made for great viewing when laying down and relaxing with a mint water. Boyfriend brought home these two home books and two small bookcases that we'll be using for a new project all for £5 from the local charity shop so I felt really quite inspired.

The next room on my list is the bathroom which is the size of a double bedroom. I've always grown up with small bathrooms and had the tiniest one in my old flat with barely any room (fun while pregnant) so when it comes to this huge expanse of floor space sandwiched between the bath, shower, toilet and sink I'm at a loss of what to do there. I'm lacking storage so with the bookcases we're going to be making some kind of storage unit from it and I have a few baskets for the windowsill but..that's it. The ceilings are low and sloped so the height of store bought storage units can be a problem and the walls are all tiled so shelves make my nerves quiver in case I crack them while fixing them up. Hopefully it'll come together in some form with a little inspiration and a lot of Pinterest studying (any excuse).

Once Layla came home from school we made pulled beef with a Jack Daniels glaze for dinner with new potatoes and salad before enjoying some strawberry ice cream in the late afternoon sunshine. I collected a few potatoes that have been growing at the bottom of the garden for a few months and I was surprised to see they'd actually grown at all because I'm not well known for being at all good at these things. I'm rather proud of the little stash and I'm hoping to venture out into carrots and other easy-grow vegetables soon.

How was your day? Did you do anything interesting?

  1. Very lovely photos, Ella. And I spy the gate to the "secret garden" you mentioned on Instagram/Twitter! ;)

I too would like to have a garden, but sadly that won't be for a couple of years until I either have or am renting a home.

Looks like it was a very beautiful day which hopefully was peaceful.

  2. What an adorable pup!

And ohh don't you just love a dismal forecast...over here in Dublin we had rain yesterday, rain today, and are set to rain til Sunday :( But yes, look up!!! There's lots to do, you just have to put your mind to it! (And having a thorough scrolling through Pinterest is definitely a great idea!)

  3. I love the idea of growing your own vegetables! I don't have a garden but I'm thinking I could at least try some chillis and maybe something like strawberries or herbs inside. We don't exactly have windowsills (which I still find really weird!) but I'm sure I can rustle up a sunny spot somewhere in the apartment!
