Once upon a time when boyfriend and I first met he told me he didn't like chocolate. Fast forward to when we lived together and Easter popped up in the year - I found one of my eggs nothing but a ball of foil in the box. Boyfriend looked a little sheepish and admitted to his fancy. Well, I was a little floored. First, he had the audacity to eat my egg (which we all know is better than regular chocolate) and also that he felt the need to cover it up like it was an indiscretion. We had a little chat about it and it turns out he really likes to indulge in chocolate but only every so often and much prefers savoury food.
This turned out to be true but every Easter despite his protests I buy him an egg and he eats it all at once. Me? Well, chocolate is one of my favourite things. Give me some chocolate and cheese, pop me in a room with some books and an internet connection and I'm content. Lindt popped this Father's Day selection through the letterbox and I saw boyfriend's face light up just a little. With a variety of chocolates including chocolate golf balls and a mix of pralines we were basically set for months. I say we because he wouldn't be a father without me, would he?
I'd love to have given a few to my own dad in a little box but he's a diabetic so I don't think that would have gone over so well. I'm a big believer in Lindt chocolates at Christmas and the bars in the red packaging with that decadent truffle filling they sell in lots of shops? Yeah, I believe in that all the time but I can't say I've always been a fan. The truffle balls that are now a staple at Christmas used to taste slightly soapy to me before I was converted. I still can't put my finger on why but it might be the same reason regular Coca Cola smells a bit like an ashtray to me (that reason would be my senses are all way off and a bit confused).
I don't really do Father's Day besides a card. Boyfriend tells me not to and just loves it when the girls make him a card and for my family it's just a card to acknowledge the day. It surprises me to find out in my adult years that people put so much thought into gifts and sending the perfect card so chocolates for me is the universal sign of love and gratitude. You can never go wrong with a fun little card, a thoughtful message and either flowers, chocolates or a good bottle of wine.
They look so good! Now I really want to eat chocolate! Also .. they are indeed quite nice for father's day gift!
