Makeup Revolution seem to be majorly hyped on the blogging scene recently with bloggers both being sent products, talking about them and purchasing them everywhere I turn. I'm not one to give into the hype for the most part but with this brand being dirt cheap I made a little order. This little order came to just £10 with £2.95 tracked delivery that not only got here within two working days after dispatch but also text me to notify me it had arrived at the post office and would be sent out that day. I wasn't expecting big things because it is so cheap. £4 for a palette, lipsticks at £1 each and a brow palette for £2.50?
When it arrived I was suitably impressed. The range relies heavily on the likes of MUA (Superdrug's budget brand offering) having paved for the way for decent quality at a very affordable price. However this range seems to be all the things MUA want to be but aren't. There's no tacky packaged celebrity endorsements but there are standout shades reminiscent of Urban Decay in bright neons adorning both lipsticks and eyeshadows. There are wearable shades and, like MUA dupes of the Urban Decay Naked palettes. Except… Makeup Revolution have a Naked 3 dupe.
It's pretty good too and I've been experimenting with it a lot. The shades are pigmented and buttery with some slight fall out but nothing too incriminating. The colours are very very similar to the Naked 3 palette with rose tones running through almost all of the shades and I have no issues with blending, picking the product up on both a natural or synthetic brush and using both wet and dry. A pretty great bargain for £4. I'm definitely going to be making another order to try some of their blushes and maybe another palette or two as I can't resist a good neutral eye colour.
As for the lipsticks, I'm suitably impressed. One of the lipsticks came a bit melted and smushed but I don't really mind too much for the price. The packaging is awful to the point where the lid just slides off on its own (what?) The lipsticks themselves are pigmented but they're not long wearing, very soft and beyond shimmery to an almost foiled shimmer on the lips which just reminds me of Heather Shimmer from the late 90's (especially the pink named Dusky and the orange-red named Twist). They're not going to be my go-to or favourite lipsticks whatsoever but I will make use out of them and the pinky purple of Crime is really very nice.
The brow palette is pretty nondescript being very much the same as the MUA offering in terms of shades, layout, tools and quality and I'm yet to try the top coat. So far, so good. It's definitely a very affordable brand who stand to improve in terms of quality of packaging but the products themselves really can't be beaten for the price, especially the palettes. Let me know what you recommend for my next order.
ooh! Do they have that screw pot thing at the end of the cap like MUA does? [where you get the same colour except in a sheer, almost gloss form?
ReplyDeleteShame about the lids coming off and the shmushed lipstick!

They do! Their packaging is almost identical to MUA's.
DeleteSeems like your opinions are the exact same as mine! I really like the colour range of their eyeshadows - and of course their Iconic 3 palette was a super hit with me! I actually just did a huge haul, but some time ago I got the eyebrow palette as well and I think it's quite good to be fair!
