Tomorrow is Layla's sixth birthday and this is what she's wearing at her birthday barbecue on Saturday. It was also my grandma's 96th birthday yesterday and boyfriend and my anniversary Saturday so it's a big week. The forecast is looking fine which is a monumental surprise to the mother who has planned outdoor parties for the past five years only to have them squandered by some form of rain and gloomy clouds. This year it's all on track to be warm and bright so after a trip to Asda we came up with this outfit that's comfortable but pretty for playing around. I'm pretty sure she'd have been well up for going as a princess but since we can't find an Elsa dress anywhere under £30 to buy she's pretty happy with what she ended up choosing. This isn't sponsored by Asda, by the way. You'd think the amount we spend there on clothes it could be but it's really just due to a love for their budget friendly ranges.
I've been experimenting a bit more with food this past week or so as I'm so sick of bland, beige meals with little to no nutritional quality. I'm not the best cook - in fact, I'm a rather terrible one - but I am learning and trying new things. Occasionally they turn out great but sometimes, not so much. I've been loving eggs lately so for lunch I made poached eggs on a bed of raw courgette and lettuce with toasted rye sourdough bread, cracked black pepper and an olive oil and herb dressing. It was delicious and filled me up for hours so it's definitely something I'll eat more of, especially because it's super simple to make. The pizza was an experiment. It's a regular base but with cheese and garlic just to tuck into as a side dish with some chicken and salad. I see these everywhere but I had the ingredients at home so I wasn't going to spend £2 on something I can make in a small amount of time.
Today I'm trying Rosie's spinach and feta pasties and the pastry is scaring me a little. We'll see how that turns out and if it's bad there'll undoubtedly be a disaster blog post. They just look so good that I can't not have a go at home!
Those poached eggs look absolutely amazing! Never even considered having them on a salad... definitely doing some poached eggs this week!!

Don't be afraid of the pastry! Just keep everything as cold as you can manage, and whack on more egg wash than you think you'll need :) Don't forget- you're cooking with butter here, so the results are never going to taste bad! ;) Let me know how you get on! Also, that salad looks divine!
