Dublin may be a modern city, packed with shiny new bars and fantastic fashionable shops, but it’s also a city that knows how to hold on to its rich cultural heritage. A visit to the Emerald Isle’s capital just isn’t complete without sampling a bit of the traditional Irish craic. Book here for an affordable, comfortable room to retire to when you’re all partied out.
Johnnie Fox’s Pub
This traditional pub is famed as the highest in Ireland, which means you’ll need to take a bus or taxi out of the city to get there, but it’s well worth it, especially on their fantastic Hooley nights which involve a delicious dinner and fantastic traditional Irish music and dancing in a raucous party atmosphere. These evenings are very popular so book before you go.
Bodhrán Experience
If you enjoy the sound of traditional Irish music, why not go one step further and have a go at playing the Irish drum yourself? Every Thursday night, complete novices visit Monkstown near Dublin for the 1st Drumming Experience to learn to play along to a hornpipe. This is an incredibly popular tourist attraction, so again make sure you book before you go.
An Evening of Food, Folklore and Fairies Dublin’s oldest pub, The Brazen Head hosts candlelit dinners every evening from March to December. As well as traditional Irish music, you’ll be mesmerised by the fairy stories that the Irish people used to tell each other by firelight long ago. It’s an enchanting way to learn more about Ireland’s rich cultural history.
It’s possible to sample the craic by stepping into almost any of Ireland’s pubs, but these experiences add a little something extra to your experience of Dublin and will ensure you return home with unique and special memories.
