Lusting: Spring Home Additions

Each season I try to update my home through little things like throws, scatter cushions and new seasonal scents but this year feels a little different. It's been three years since I moved in to my little rented white stone house and only now it's starting to feel like home. I look at different properties that are cheaper or closer to my family and find that none of them have the same feel as this place did from the moment I stepped foot in the door on an extremely cold day back in January 2011 with a two and a half year old and two month old in tow. It instantly felt like home and with some decorating and homely touches it has truly become home no matter if I struggle with the rent sometimes or not. I feel it's time to inject some added freshness into the house this year and while I'm currently painting the walls in the office and girls' room white, adding feature walls and refreshing the gloss on doors, radiators and skirting the smaller accessories will be changed too.

I know there's a lot of lighting in this list but that's because it's the area I think needs an overhaul more than anything else. In the majority of the rooms I have either no light shades or the now-tatty ones that were here when we moved in. I want to bring something extra to the light on the upstairs landing and I love these trio of light shades which would look great when walking up the winding staircase or looking out from the split level bathroom. In my office I'm opting for laser cut geometric shapes in white to add more height to the ceiling and make it look very spacious. For the times when a full room light is not needed this bunny lamp is perfect!

I have this fantasy of donating all my mugs, plates and glasses to charity shops and starting over with new matching sets. I love plain plates as they're much easier to photograph food on but I do have my eye on bicycle printed glasses that are right up my street. One day my kitchen will be my haven but until then it's a little bit of a mess and the last on my list to make my own in the next few months.
