I've been needing some time out recently. People think that when you work from home it's all time out but really it's exactly like working in an office but with the internet as a procrastination tool, errands to run, a toddler around your feet and dogs next to you with their heads resting on the laptop all with nobody to tell you to work. This is why I find myself working well into the night or when I should be cuddling up with the girls after dinner and I really do need a strict schedule and efficient childcare 1-2 days a week.
On top of the daily stresses plus work there's the fact that yesterday my six year old battered MacBook decided to randomly corrupt all of my files and blink the screen on and off. After a discussion with Apple I was told to do a hard re-set and re-install Mavericks so I've lost all of my photos, all of my text files and pretty much everything that is not already uploaded to the internet. I'm not ashamed to say I actually cried and it's still not 100% so it's time to save for a second hand one (they retail for £350-700 used approximately). It'll be a process but I'm hoping this can hold out until then. I've managed to get the important things back but I live with the loss of some things I could really do with holding on to.
On days like this I try to relax. I start off with a hot bubble bath and get myself clean before throwing my hair up into the messiest style so it dries a little less frizzy than it would down, pull on clean pyjamas and sit down. I don't worry about mess, about making everything perfect or about eating healthily and will happily just order a takeaway in the evening. In the day boyfriend will take over the cooking for us which is brilliant because he's a fantastic cook, especially for comfort food. I'll read blogs, forget my e-mails, like lots on my Instagram feed and pin to my hearts content. I'll take the time to catch up with friends via text, paint my nails, read books with the girls, a few chapters of a novel myself and drink lots of chamomile tea rather than endless mugs of coffee.
In the evening it'll be a night of TV, blankets instead of the central heating, a good thorough skincare session and a scented candle burning in the background. I'll lay with my head on boyfriend's chest and just be for a while with my own thoughts half watching whatever happens to be on. I'm never away from technology in one form or another so it's nice to be able to zone out just for a while. I'm pretty boring when it comes to relaxing and I don't do anything special like head to a spa, go on weekend breaks or take walking adventures. I'm pretty much a Netflix marathon, warm cookie dough and naps kind of girl but that's great because it means the next day I feel much more energised and ready to be productive. Who says taking time out is such a bad thing?
Your relaxation techniques sound a lot like mine! I much prefer to just chill out rather than do anything too luxurious like go to a spa. I am all about the comfort food as well! I hope your laptop situation gets sorted soon, I know how frustrating it can be to be without a reliable laptop! Luckily my current one seems to be doing pretty well, but I do have a habit of owning laptops which only last a year or two! x
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like me. No better way to relax! I hope you can get you're Mac sorted :) x

I love your relaxation schedule! There's nothing better than a Netflix and warm cookie dough combination!
