Mochas & Museums

Yesterday the teachers at Layla's school (and pretty much everywhere else, I'd imagine) were on strike and so we made the most of a weekday day off and headed out for the afternoon. Since it's coming up to the end of the month and I am all but broke we decided something relatively cheap and possibly free would be in order and I was a bit stumped, if I'm honest. Apart from some lovely local parks there's not much to do that's free in our city - or at least, I don't know of much. In the end we decided we'd get a cheeky Starbucks with my best friend before heading to the local library and museum as the girls hadn't been since they were old enough to remember anything about it.

I wore a light floral print dress with my pastel pink wool mix coat which seemed to be a great idea...until I left the house. In the shade it was awfully windy resulting in me pulling my knee length dress down a lot after a few incidents of it flapping merrily in the wind. My new favourite drink from Starbucks has to be a mocha frappuccino with peppermint syrup. Basically it's like After Eight's with a tiny bit of coffee in a desert drink so while loaded with calories it was a much needed pick me up after the week from hell. We met up with my sister, brother and niece for a few minutes before heading to the museum and I think we were all glad to just be inside for a while.

Our local museum isn't big at all but it is pretty interesting and they have some activities for children such as these little doors that you colour in as you find them and describe what's inside. It's pretty interactive and while it has nothing on the likes of my favourite museums in the bigger cities it holds a lot of memories of school trips. I used to be obsessed with these gem stones and in Cardiff museum would always insist I'd buy a small one in the gift shop to collect. I can't deny it's still my favourite part and I still have the urge to add to my now non-existent collection.

How was your day?

  1. I always loved museums when I was little, for my birthday every year my Mum would take me and a group of friends to the Castle Museum in Norwich!

I haven't actually been on to one for years .. well apart from the Natural History in London but that was just to see the dinosaurs, we didn't have a proper look round x

  2. Mmm mocha frappucinos...too bad I gave up chocolate for lent!

You should absolutely rekindle your gemstone collection. I think it's so neat when little things like that inspire us and having a collection of something so beautiful is a great reminder of all the different museums you've visited...go for it!

  3. Nothing better than a day at the museum! And ahhh I feel ya gurl, gemstones make for an enchanting collection! I actually collect gemstone rings - rose quartz, amethyst, onyx etc in hope of one day becoming a soulful gypsy <3 And I'm so glad you treated yourself with a wonderful Frappucino, definitely must try out that one! Lovely little post my dear :)
