Hello, Laura

My name is Laura or if you know me well Ella and it strikes me that there's not much about me on the place I frequent online most often. I put so much of myself out there and yet so little so I thought I'd write a little get to know me post so you know who I am, what I do, what I'm like and hopefully give you a little insight into the girl behind the laptop.

I'm twenty five and Welsh. I've lived here my entire life and I never expected to. I live in one of those cities you spend your entire live clawing to get out of only to be dragged down and end up get a little comfortable. I moved out at nineteen when I found out I was pregnant and ended up in a tiny council flat with a disabled shower and no bath that was the bane of my existence for two whole years with a baby but looking back I do miss the fact that everything was compact. I had my second daughter five days after my twenty second birthday and gave birth on my living room floor. We moved to our little white house three years ago and it's still not completed to what we want as we've been doing everything slowly and buying things second hand to revamp the space. I'm 5ft10in and while I love heels I'm mostly found in flat shoes with every outfit. There are always flowers and candles burning in my house.

I work from home thanks to a chronic condition which has made out of the home jobs impossible to hold down for more than a few months. I write things like press releases, blog posts and website content for companies, manage and strategise their social media and design blogs. I've written a children's book and I'm working on another but I'm still researching publication beyond the one I had bound for my daughters. I want to write for a living or take photographs so while I'm working on becoming the person ideal for that dream career I write and take photos for this blog. I use this as a diary, as information for others, for my own personal enjoyment and also as a portfolio of sorts for photographs. This blog shows me how far I've come and in another year it will remind me how far I've come from here.

I spend my life singing. You can mostly find me in my pyjamas and barefoot when I'm at home as I hate being uncomfortable when indoors and throw my clothes off the moment I'm in for the day. I wear wigs to avoid damaging my own hair with bleach and dyes as I've had some horrible experiences which ended up in drastic short hair cuts that just don't suit me at all. I can't paint my nails without ending up with polish everywhere so they always look a huge mess. I watch a lot of TV shows and get thoroughly invested in them (airing right now: The Walking Dead, Criminal Minds, Castle, Bones, 2 Broke Girls, The Following, How I Met Your Mother, Helix, The Big Bang Theory, New Girl - that's not counting those about to start or no longer airing; I need help). I'm always snapping photos and it garners some strange looks in cafes and just out and about on the street.

Layla-Grace was named after Charlotte Church 'stole' the name Ruby and the Eric Clapton song 'Layla' and the Jeff Buckley song 'Grace' came on my iTunes after each other. I've been married in the past before I met my now fiancee. It was a huge mistake but a massive lesson learned for waiting until it's right (and we've been waiting for five years so far). I'm honest to the point of a fault and people often label me a bitch when I mean no harm but have no brain to mouth filter. I try to do one thing to benefit someone else every day. I have fibromyalgia and bi polar disorder and although it's taken seven years to get to a point where it's manageable I'm really glad I've got here. I don't seem shy but I am very shy and awkward in big or new social situations so I overcompensate by talking. A lot.

Tell me some things about you! Who are you? What are you like?

  1. This is a great post Ella - I find the way you write so refreshing, you're very to the point, unapologetic and that's my favourite kind of blogger! I too am a work at home Mum and struggling a little to find my place in the world since having Daisy but shhh don't tell anyone! I'm sure I'll get there - just as you seem to be doing so too! I always enjoy reading your blog - I just had to comment on this lovely post as I think it's a very brave and wonderful one! x
