A Day Off

I have a little secret to tell you all - sometimes I work through the night all week so I can take a day off near the weekend. As a mother who's always more than a little broke a weekend is never truly a rest. I spend my weekends cleaning, cooking, baking, tidying, playing, walking, watching Disney DVD's and doing homework. I rarely go out and when I do it's almost never with boyfriend as we don't have a babysitter on hand plus one of my personal new year's resolutions was not to get drunk this year so while I'll happily have a few drinks I won't go past that point that I've seen in the distance behind me many, many times before.

So today, I'm doing just that. I'm taking the day off. It's not the luxurious hotel bed with champagne and Netflix marathons that my dream day off would consist of but it's no work, no business emails, no designing or creating or writing more than a blog post and social media updates and it is a lot of reading magazines, drinking gingerbread lattes (still not over them) and dreaming of Spring via wish lists and online browsing. I've managed to call my family members and have a catch up, reply to emails from friends plus tweets and Facebook messages from weeks ago I just forgot about. I've walked the dogs in a tracksuit and trainers taking in the cold air and beautiful sunshine before this weekend's storm is set to hit and I managed to take these photos.

Tonight I'm making the most of it with the girls bathed and in bed by 7pm and boyfriend and I are going to cuddle up on the sofa with a film, some popcorn courtesy of Metcalfes Skinny (a post will be up soon!) and maybe a game of Monopoly where neither of us cheats. We're not wild or party animals anymore and that's quite fine, especially on a day like today.

How do you like to spend your days off?

  1. Sounds like a perfect day Ella, I like to spend my days off with my husband going window shopping, drinking coffee and walking our dog. We love marathon sessions of Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones or gangster films with a relaxing glass of Captain Morgans and Cola in the evening. We don't have any little people though... Not yet ;) xx

  2. Through the night? All the way? Through the actual night? Blimey! I'd be a gibbering wreck the next day, I'd spend my day off weeping!

Hope you had a lovely one though xx

  3. Sounds like a perfect day, really. Of course the hotel sound better, but don't we all dream of that? And it will al be so much more pleasant when it finally happens, at least that's what I tell myself!
