Pre-Spring Fashion

With the mornings that tiny bit lighter it's making me lust over clothes that don't need to be hidden under layers of knits and waterproof coats. Apart from that mint green pea coat, I'm not lusting over very many pastels in clothing just yet but I'm drawn to lighter fabrics, prints and items I can add in to my existing collection and get a lot of wear from. This year I've been determined to only buy things if I can make at least three outfits from them and so I've really had to question my judgment, especially on shoes. I'm a size 9 which doesn't help matters but when I fall for a pair of chunky platforms reminding myself that I don't want to be both uncomfortable and towering over everyone constantly has really helped.

Maxi skirts are essential items in my wardrobe but hard to get right. At 5ft10 with a 34" inside leg finding maxi skirts that are long and not ankle grazing can be problematic especially as I like to wear mine on the waist and not low on the hips. This is from the Tall range of New Look and I've had a great experience with their tall section in the past so it's something I'm going to grab while it's available. The bowler hat is a little bit of an impulse as I'm still torn as to whether I can pull them off but with long tousled hair and a bright lip I think they look much more stylish than they get given credit for. ASOS Curve are my favourite and I always end up perusing the offerings online when I'm broke so I can go on a splurge when I'm not so. These fine rings are perfect and not too over the top and would go with pretty much everything and while the printed joggers are something that I feel will be hit and miss on me I also think about those days where a pair of flats, comfortable trousers, a vest top and a long cardigan would do just nicely. Speaking of vests, you can never have too many, can you? I aim to throw out all of my old tatty ones and invest in new ones this year as I wear them all year round on their own or under blouses for a little more modesty.

The bag and shoes I've been wanting for a while. I saw the bag in the pink and loved it but I realised when I saw the navy, tan and white that it was the shape and style I coveted and thought this would be the most versatile way to wear it (although I will be picking up a pink or orange bag this S/S). It's big enough to store my life in without being my usual style so I think it would perk up an outfit well. The shoes are just perfect with dresses, skirts, bare legs, printed trousers in the slightly colder weather and the warmer. They're not too summery which is perfect and I tend not to wear all out toe baring sandals even in the heat as I can't stand my feet. Compromise, the key to any relationship - even with shoes.

Are you doing a little bit of wardrobe addition pre-Spring?

  1. I'm going to try and have a little time of the spending, so I've been trying pretty hard not to get too excited about the new things or to look at too many new items.

    1. I've been doing the same for the past two or three months but it's got the point where the things are just on my mind so much begging me to buy them I have to give in!

  2. It's taking all of my will power not to buy that bag. I always seem to go for RI bags!

  3. The bag is gorgeous. I'm such a sucker for navy and tan together lately. I don't even know why because it sounds so wrong when I type it out like that but looks so good together!

I was bad and piled an ASOS basket full yesterday but then got my senses back and didn't click buy. I'm trying to be good and not spend anything on clothes this month. Lucky it's nearly over!

  4. I am boycotting bowler hats, I just don't get them, they're going in my Room 101 with floral crowns :) I like a hat that serves a purpose (predominantly keeping my ears warm) and I have yet to discover the purpose of the bowler hat!

On another note though, I want pretty much everything else on this list. I am going 100% maxi skirt this year, I've decided. I've had my beady eye on shoes similar to those too!

We can be skirt and shoes twins, but you're on your own with the hat :)
