1 Sept 2013

September.

September 1st. The day I feel like my favourite season begins (although not officially) and the first date of my favourite month. The beginning of my second annual resolution list. The beginning of school and, for me, a new job. The day the Hogwarts Express leaves the station to go home. The beginning and the end all wrapped up with a neat raffia bow.

September has always had fresh start connotations for me. I chalk it up to the fact that every year at the end of August my mother and I would go shopping for a brand new wardrobe and arm loads of stationary ready for school. The month smells like the pages of books and cinnamon. From the first pull over the shoulders of a new knit it feels like change and I know I have a terribly romanticised view of September and glaze over the rain spells, the evenings getting darker and threatening clouds every time you dare wear those beautiful suede boots.

I'm pretty much stocked up on Autumn clothes now. I have two pairs of boots, a chunky knit, a pair of high waisted jeans, a smart jacket, a trench coat - basics up to my armpits but nothing truly nice. I don't have any income until the end of October as I am up to my eyeballs in debt and living off a small amount a week until my wage comes in but it's nice to know in just over a week I will be attending my first day and getting those familiar jitters attached to making a good impression.

So for now I am treating myself to my final vanilla chai latte with cinnamon of August and heading into September with a more positive outlook and fresh eyes. With my eldest daughter's backpack stuffed for her first day back to the feeling of being back into a routine I am loving the change.

Tomorrow I will drink hot coffee, wear knits around the house, write a list of resolutions and watch Harry Potter & The Philosopher's Stone and I will await the first kick of fallen leaves in my new boots. September's made for it.
