George At ASDA Gel Pro Nail Varnish

George at ASDA Gel Pro nail varnish £2 each (currently on offer 3 for £5 here)

I'm never one to turn down nail varnish and when Tilly at Love Tilly snapped up these I knew I had to get some for myself. I chose the same colours and couldn't wait to get them on so I naturally did what I always did. Two coats, top coat, done.

Only no, don't do that. At least, not unless you wait for the coats to be bone dry beforehand.

With these polishes you need to wait between coats which is something I don't usually do. I find with other, thinner polishes I can just wait a minute or two and pop another coat on and it looks pretty even. With these you really do need to wait or else even when it seems touch dry it smudges but once you do the finish is absolutely glorious. High shine, chip resistant on my weak nails with hand-heavy duties in my day to day job for 4 days without a topcoat and in beautiful colours that can translate from season to season.

My favourite out of the three is the middle polish, 'Deep Purple'. I love the slightly gothic look and on my nails is the easiest way to pull this off. In some lights it looks black and it is very dark but you can tell it's a purple and when your nails catch the light and the purple shines through it looks phenomenal. I think it'd be a fantastic base colour if you were to do a galaxy nail due to the benefits of chip resistance and, of course, the colour.

'Poppy Red' is very much like it's name - a medium red that's Autumn appropriate without wandering into deep berries and burgandies. It's a classic shade that will never go out of style, can translate from day to evening very easily and is the one I'm currently sporting with every outfit.

'Pink' is wonderul but in comparison my least favourite of the three. It's almost a dusky pinky-peach and looks beautiful but since I'm so pale it does tend to make my hands look like shovels. I'll definitely get wear out of it and it's so shiny that it can really help against the nude on nude effect it can often give on pale skin.

For £2 a pop at regular price and 3 for £5, not even Barry M and it's similar but just-beaten-out Gelly Hi-Shine's can beat these. You can buy them at the George make up stands in most big Asda stores.

  2. So glad I came across this. I was going to buy these last night but was unsure if they would actually last more than a day or two without chipping! A great review.
