Introducing Bowie

It was never my intention to add a third dog to our family mix. I'm a bit of a dog obsessive and take so much pride in my pooches but really, two was enough. That was until my friend's dog had given birth to a litter of Bichon Frisé and Pomeranian cross puppies and after a spell of bad health in which they were afraid the mother was not going to recover from, they were looking for homes for the hand raised babies. Bowie was the last left - nicknamed Rolo at home because he was the final one - and my friend was desperate for a good home for him. And that's when I caved.

I was smart about it. I thought we'd do a trial and see how the other dogs react to him before committing to anything but within minutes of his arrival I knew he'd fit into our family well. The other two follow him around, play with him and have so far let him nap with them twice snuggled up between the two of them in their bed. I know it won't be an easy ride as we're going right back to the basics of training here and also with clashing personalities as they develop but I think this could be a really great thing. Sure, the logistics of walking Sadie alone so she can run and coming back for the other two smaller dogs is tricky but I'm only going from one to two in that respect as Dexter and I walk alone due to his little legs and decisions to not walk for longer than twenty minutes at a time.

He's been here for a few hours now and has explored the garden, napped and came with me in a homemade sling made from a scarf to pick Layla up from her final day of class until September. He's only seven weeks old so he's not ready to go out for walks yet and there's a few vet appointments I need to get out of the way in the next month or so until I really have to consider walking the three of them but I always try to socialise my dogs from a young age by carrying them until it's safe. I'm really surprised that my insurance has only gone up by £2 after adding him on and since we buy big sacks of food from the local pet shop he won't cost more week to week to care for.

No doubt there'll be lots of photos of him featured here there and everywhere so if you're into adorable puppies, tales of three pooches and watching him grow alongside my long-loved babies, stick around because you're in for a treat.

  3. What a cutie! I can't even handle it. I'm shocked I've kept my life down to one dog and one cat - I know how easy it is to get sucked in by a furball!

  5. Oh my, what a cutie. I would love to have another dog to keep my little Daisy company but my parents are really against it and I also think she would get way too jealous as she's a real drama queen :)

  7. We've always battled with the idea of getting another dog. Ours is an unneutered male Labrador which is where the problem lies. Rolo is very sweet, I'm sure he will fit in with your little family!

  9. What a little sweetie! Chris and I just got a kitten and we were very nervous how our dog would react. He ended up loving her! They spend all their time together cuddling and wrestling. I'm glad little Bowie fits in well.
