Yesterday we spent the day visiting family and getting a bit wet. The girls need new swimming costumes so instead of buying something quickly I packed a load of summer clothes and told them to go to town. My sister put up the smaller pool in her garden and the girls stayed there for hours playing with spray bottles and balls, splashing everyone who walked past and ate far too many cupcakes on the grass.
It's amazing what a day with your most loved can do for the soul, especially when there are hot dogs and garlic pizza on the agenda against beautiful weather. It's been a bit of a roller coaster week emotionally and it was so good to be able to sit there with a dog on my lap watching everyone mill around with smiles plastered on their faces. In those moments you forget the trivial aspects of life and realise that the people you have no say in being related to in your life are, just sometimes, the best.
